Day 358: 12/25/13- Christmas!!

Day 358: 12/25/13- Christmas!!
New Thing:  Christmas 2013
Inspiration: Jesus
Time: All day
Bottom Line: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." John 1:1-5

Reflection: Opened presents. Celebrated the Eucharist, relax with family, celebrate the birth of our Lord! Peace on earth indeed.

Day 357: 12/24/13- Christmas Eve Surprise

Day 357: 12/24/13- Christmas Eve Surprise
New Thing:  Christmas Eve Surprise
Inspiration: Annie, Ali, Doug, and Mom
Time: A few hours
Bottom Line: Surprise!

Reflection: Christmas Eve! Before I went into the six services of Christmas Eve (all beautiful), we had a visit from Ali (in full elf costume, complete with a musical dancing hat), Doug, and Mom. That would have been fun enough, but the fun really took off when our friend, Annie, showed up as a surprise for Mom. She was beside herself and we all had delicious BBQ to celebrate. Nice!

The moment of surprise!

Day 356: 12/23/13- Homemade Baby Wipes

Day 356: 12/23/13- Homemade Baby Wipes
New Thing:  DIY Baby Wipes
Inspiration: Pinterest
Time: A few mins.
Bottom Line: Pretty good.

Reflection: Made some DIY baby wipes today. Here is are the directions from this site:

What you need:
  • 1 roll Bounty (must be Bounty – I tried another brand against my friend’s advice and they were terrible)
  • A very sharp knife or an electric knife works best
  • 1 T. baby wash
  • 1 T. coconut oil (you can use other oils but coconut has lots of good benefits so it’s a good choice)
  • 1 C. water (make sure it is hot if you’re using coconut oil so it’ll melt)
  • 1 container the appropriate size to house the wipes
Remove the cardboard roll inside the paper towels and cut the remaining paper towels in half.  (as noted below by Amber, you can leave the roll in there and remove it as the final step…which ever works best for you)

Mix the baby wash, oil, & hot water around to make sure the wash and oil are evenly distributed.

Pour the mixture into your wipes container.

Add the cut paper towels and let sit for about an hour until all the liquid spreads throughout the paper towels.

Pull wipes from center.

Day 355: 12/22/13- St. David's Christmas Pageant

Day 355: 12/22/13- St. David's Christmas Pageant
New Thing: Watching D. become the most beautiful angel ever.
Inspiration: St. David's Pageant, D. Christmas
Time: An hour Bottom Line: The sweetest little angel.

Reflection: As always, the St. David's Christmas pageant-- with its pit band, live animals, and Baby Jesus-- was awe inspiring. This year, D. was an angel and my favorite part was when she held up her candle over the head of the wise man who stood in front of her to make sure she was still seen. Love that girl!
