Day 96: 4/6/13- Newcomers Workshop
New Thing- Newcomers Workshop
Inspiration: Mary Parmer, St. David's Newcomers Ministry
Time: All Day
Bottom
Line: Inviting, Welcoming and Connecting
Reflection: Today we were blessed to have Mary Parmer from the Diocese of Texas to help us (and several other people from different Diocese--including people from St. Peter's in Tunkhannock!) how to fine tune our Newcomers Ministry. Here is the description of the event:
Inviting, welcoming, and connecting persons into our congregations
are vital steps toward building healthy and vibrant churches. Join
congregational development consultant, Mary Parmer, as she shares with
us assessment tools and creative, concrete resources to form a
systematic and intentional newcomer ministry. Mary Parmer serves as the Project Consultant to the Diocese of Texas Newcomer Ministry Project.
In the last two years, 70 congregations in the Diocese of Texas have
sent 250 clergy & lay leaders to Mary's newcomer trainings, and
hundreds of others have attended her diocesan conference newcomer
workshops. Many of these churches have reported that use of the creative
ideas, newcomer assessments, and resources used in the Newcomer
Ministry Project (soon to be published by Forward Movement), brought new
energy and spirit to their congregations, along with encouraging growth
in membership.
She was great and one parishioner said that she was like a "b-12 shot" for the ministry. We are going to be brainstorming and making some changes in the days and months to come. Thanks, Mary!
