Day 309: 11/6/11- First Sunday Service at St. David's

Day 309: 11/6/11
New Thing:
First Sunday Service at St. David's
Inspiration: St. David's
Cost: $0
Time: All day
Bottom Line: A beautiful day full of worship!

Reflection: Today was my first taste of Sunday Services here at St. David's. It was amazing. They have four services and all of them were packed. The first was Rite 1 at 8:00am in the historic church built in 1715. This space uses an Eastern facing altar. The building is surrounded by a graveyard and the only electricity it uses if for the A/C, heat and organ. They rest of the lightning comes from candlelight. It is like worshiping in a perfect postcard.

Then we had the huge 9:15 service in the larger space seen above. As we walked in I was stunned to see so many people and the music was transcendent (we even had a brass quartet to celebrate All Saint's Sunday). It was awe inspiring.  There were also five baptisms at this service.

Next came a very lovely coffee hour with a cake for Ken, Delia and I followed by the 11:15 service back in the historic church. This time it was Rite II with music and another baptism. Again, it was wonderful.

Finally, I headed back to the historic church at 5:00 for the last service of the day. With the candlelight and music it was probably the most beautiful of the four. It was a blessing to see the Spirit moving in this place and I am still in awe.
