Bottom Line: A trip to the eight wonder of the world.

Reflection: Today is another busy Sunday. During our Sunday Youth Forum, we tried a new way of praying with scripture by putting a spin on the ancient exercise of Lectio Divina. Typically, this practice helps you sink into scripture by dwelling on the words in meditation. Today, we took that a step further by letting certain phrases or words speak to us and then created abstract art around those words. The creations were beautiful and we found a new way to enter into the 23 Psalm.

After church, I kissed the family good-bye and hit the road on my way to visit friends in Connecticut (more about that in the next post). On the way, I meant my father at one of our favorite places in the whole world: The Alexis Diner on Rt. 84 near Beacon, NY. Since my parents are both from CT and both of their families are still located in that part of the world, we use to make the trip up and back all the time. We always stopped at the Alexis. Always. To hear my father speak of this place is akin to hearing someone from antiquity talk about seeing electricity work for the first time. Every time we would sit down, he would marvel at the menu exclaiming; "My God! Look at the selection! You can have anything you could ever dream of!" And then as soon as the food would come, he would throw his hands up in wonder and yell, "Look at the portions!! Who could eat all this?! Amazing!!" As though, perhaps, these were portions for the very gods themselves and not us mere mortals. Of course the taste was superior to any other food which we had ever come in contact with, and Dad would make sure we were appreciative of that fact. Lastly, we would always make sure to stop at the "room-of-requirement" which boasted the cleanest facilities on the planet. The interior art-work is of the 7 wonders of the world, and indeed, the Alexis rightly takes its place among them. Yes, to stop at the Alexis was to find refreshment for the body and the soul for those pilgrims who made this holy trek.
